I'm back!

Hi everyone! Long time, no post. I know I've said a few times in the past that I want to get back into posting regularly again but this time I think I'm actually going to get back into it. I'm also hoping to maybe start posting videos on my YouTube channel again but we'll see what happens about that. Anyway, this is just a message to remind you guys to keep checking in on my blog because you can expect more posts on here!

To give an update on me,
I've been using a menstrual cup for the most part since early October last year. I also use cloth pads majority of the time when I'm not using my cup. I still have a stash of disposable products for in case I need or any of my friends need something, I have them.
I've finished high school now. I finished at the end of last year and now I'm in my first year of studies. What am I studying? I'm studying to be a teacher so yeah, really enjoying it so far.

Anyway, thanks for those that are still here.
Comment what sort of posts you'd like to see.

I bought a menstrual cup!

I haven't posted in quite some time but I bought a menstrual cup! I bought the Lunette cup, size 1 in blue. I discovered recently that my local organics store sells them so of course, I had to get one. I've been wanting to get a menstrual cup for years and so finally being able to get my hands on one was very exciting. I also happen to currently be on my period so I will be sharing my first experience below and then later on (either the end of this period or after my next period), I'll post more information about my experience.
Image result for lunette cup blueHere is a photo of the menstrual cup I purchased, it was $55 NZD. Prices will vary depending on where you're from though.

I used the cup for the first time a few hours ago. Getting it in took a while but I know it will just take time and that once I'm used to it, it won't be a problem. I tried a couple different folds but found the triangle fold the easiest. My biggest issue with getting it in was probably the fact it popped open before I fully had it in but that was mostly me just not having the best grip on the fold. I'd say one tip I have is to just try and relax. Once I got it in, I could hardly feel it. However, I could kind of feel the stem of it and so I think I'm likely to trim the stem a little just so that I don't notice it as much.

After about an hour of having it in, I decided to try and take it out. I know you can keep them in for up to 12 hours but I was just a little nervous about whether or not I'd actually be able to take it out so decided I would try it while I was home alone. It was a little bit difficult and hurt a little but again, I'm bound to get used to it with time.

Hey!!!

Hi everyone, so I know I came back but just recently I've had more important stuff on my mind. More important things that have been stressing me out a little, my best friend wants to commit suicide and so that has been stressing me out because everyone has left the responsible stuff to me. Everyone has left me to contact people about it and try and get her help. Everyone has put that on my shoulders and I'm worried about losing her. I'm thinking that I might make a video on supporting friends with depression because I'm sure that could be helpful for some of you.

I've also really been trying to make the most of my holidays and spend more time with friends so I've been quite busy with my friends. So, not much time to make videos.

I'm hoping to get a video up on Thursday but no guarantees just yet because I know what I'm like. I would like to start a 2015 Back to School series but again no guarantees on that. Another thing I've been thinking about is doing a braces vlog because I get braces early in February.

So yeah, that's just a little update on why I haven't posted. I hope you guys understand and I hope to get back into making videos very soon.

Thanks,

Christmas Gift Ideas for Family

So this is the 2nd post in my Christmas series and so here I am with gift ideas for family members.

So for family members I would recommend things to remind them of memories. Maybe find a nice photo frame and put a really nice family photo in it. Or maybe me a calendar with family photos in it. Just make something with a family photo in it and I'm sure it will mean a lot to whichever family member receives it. Or maybe a family photo album.

However, if you have a younger family member you are buying for just buy something that fits their hobbies, interests or likes because they probably won't appreciate photos as much as parents, aunties, uncles or grandparents.

You don't have to include family photos though, other ideas could include...
-Cook Books
-Hobby Books
-Family Movies with popcorn and other treats
-Relaxation/Spa kit
-Offering to tidy or do chores for them
-Offering to babysit
-Vouchers to go out for lunch or something
-Vouchers to their fave clothing store (especially parents who may not get the opportunity to buy new clothes often)
-Fave CD's, movies or books
-DIY Gifts (look on pinterest for ideas)
-Coupon Booklet to do jobs for them and help them out

Anything Really, Whatever the person likes.

Thanks,

Christmas Wishlist 2015

Hey Guys, so I've decided to share my Christmas Wishlist with you so here we go.

Now, Just before I start I would like to say that I know I won't get everything on this list and that is completely ok, it doesn't bother me, these are just some things that I would quite like to get. Also, this isn't everything as I've excluded the things that can't be bought such as the relationship I would really like.

So yeah, here we go with my Christmas Wishlist for 2015

The Period Tag

So here I am with the period tag and so yeah... let's get started

1. When did you start(age)?
I was 13 and 2 months when I had a really super light period for like 2 days in August 2013 but now that I look back I think it might have been spotting and think my actual first period was in November 2013 when I was 13 and 5 months.

2. Where did you start?
In August I was at home and in November it was the end of the day at school so my liner was enough to avoid leakage before I got home to put a pad on.

3. How did you feel about it?
Really confused, excited, nervous, just a range of emotions because I didn't really know what to think.

4. Who did you tell first?
In August I didn't tell anyone and mum guessed because of the stains in my underwear and in November I told mum on like the 3rd or 4th day via text.

5. What period products did/do you use?
I used Libra Girl Regular pads and also Stayfree Light Pads

6. Are your cycles regular?
Yeah they started to become regular this year

7. What is your favorite product?
For liners I really like U by Kotex Protect Liners and for Pads I don't really have a favourite. I do like using my cloth pads a lot though.

8. Are your periods heavy?
My periods are somewhat heavy. My 1st day is regular, 2nd is heavy, 3rd is regular and then they get lighter from then.

9. How long are your periods?
My periods are usually 5 or 6 days long and my period usually comes every 25 days or so. Although my last period came 2 days later than usual and was in sync with 4 of my friends.

10. Do you get cramps?
Sometimes but not always and they usually go away soon enough

11.Do you get PMS and if so what?
About a week before my period my breasts get really tender but only for like a day or 2. I also crave chocolate and often have really itchy breasts.

12. What is your most embarrassing period moment?
My most embarrassing period story is from my last period which was last week. So I was in English and I was wearing a pad. It was last period and about half way through the lesson and I noticed the room smelt like blood and just like a period so I twisted my skirt a bit and noticed a bit of a stained patch and after that I was freaking out for the rest of the lesson (I didn't have any pads in my bag because I had already changed twice and my period was a lot heavier than I thought it would be). Thank goodness it was last period and that the stain was slightly to the side because I just twisted my skirt a bit so that the stain was on the side and so that I could use my violin to cover the stain. I am so glad no one saw it!😒😒😒

Hey!

Hi! So sorry for the lack of pretty much everything. The lack of videos. The lack of posts.

I would like to start by saying thank you so much! I now have 101 subscribers and I am shocked. I haven't posted videos for 5 months yet still got like 20 new subs in that time. I am really considering posting videos again but I don't know yet. I barely get requests so never really know what sorts of things to post although if I start posting videos again I would really like to kick it off with something creative like a routine video or a food video. I really hope to get back into it because I really like helping people and had fun filming videos and I kind of miss it. So keep an eye on my channel because I want to make a come back and I want it to be a good video so yeah! Although what confuses me is that I never really had a reason to not film apart from maybe the fact I don't get much time home alone and that school work is my priority but aside from that I do end up with quite a bit of spare time and I hope to make good use of that so yeah...

Thanks for all of my subscribers, you mean so much to me and I really hope I can be back to help you.

Apology...

Hi... Yes it's me and I'm sorry you haven't heard from me in a while. I haven't had much time to film and I lost my old phone with my KiwiGirlHelp kik on it so I no longer have a channel kik. The last time most of you would've heard from me would be if you follow my channel instagram -Kiwigirlhelp. I'll probably be using that more than anything else so be sure to follow me on instagram if you still want advice from me.

So I probably won't be using my youtube channel much, maybe every now and then but not as much as I did most of last year. I might do the odd vlog or something on my phone or videos occasionally but it really depends if I get more time to film or not but I'm not going to make any video promises. I'm really sorry about this but I'm keeping all of my videos up so if you need any help you can still go and view my old videos.

For my instagram it will be used for my usual posts but since I am probably going to get braces this year I am also going to use it as a progress blog type thing so I can look back on it and see how my teeth changed over the time. I still have to go for a consultation so I have no idea when I'm getting braces but hopefully I will go for a consultation in the next couple of months.

Also my lack of posts and stuff is partially because I have been busy lately with school. I'm in 2 choirs, orchestra, a flute group for a competition and have to prepare a flute solo performance for my music class this term, I'm a year 10 (second year high school in NZ) and am pretty much working at a level higher than my year group. I'm doing year 11 courses for Social Science, Science and Maths so have practise exams coming up in a few weeks. I'm also doing a bit of year 11 English but am not doing any exams for English. This is certainly keeping me busy so I think I'll be a bit busy until the end of this year probably.

I am sorry about this and hope you understand but this won't be the last time I'll post on here. I'll still post just not as often.

Thanks,
KiwiGirlHelp

A short message

Hi Girls, so I'm sorry for the lack of videos but I started back at school last Friday for a part day and then fully on Monday and got homework on Monday and I always have to revise for Science.

I would like to continue by thanking you for 80 subs on my youtube channel!!! That is amazing and I am getting even closer to 100. Can we get to 100 before my birthday in June??? It's hard to believe 80 people watch my videos which is like having 3 classes at school watching my videos. It's unreal and I can't wait to see how far I will have come at the end of this year.

Something else I would like to share because it could effect my ability to post videos this year, is that I got into the top class for my year. My science teacher expects us to revise each night because we have small revision tests every day. I will also have more studying to do as we get towards the end of the year (October/November) because I will be doing Year 11 Exams in year 10. So that means 3 hour exams for me this year...

Anyway, I think that's all I have to say. I will hopefully get some videos up this weekend so keep an eye out for those.

Thanks,
KiwiGirlHelp

How to keep your binder tidy and organised...

I am going to try to use a binder this year and it isn't all that common at my school but I do have my usual books to so I think I might focus on using my binder for important notes and for things about my end of year exams. Although I really am not sure exactly what I'm going to use it for yet but I still have a bunch of tips on keeping your binder organised.

So you have your binder and your not really sure what sorts of things you can put in it and ways to keep in organised?

First I would suggest buying or making some tab dividers so that you can use them to separate different subjects or sub-topics within a subject. The amount of tab dividers you will need in your binder will depend on how many binders you are using and how many subjects/topics you have.

In a 1 inch binder you can fit 200 pieces of refill in it but I would suggest putting a little less than that in it if you have a 1 inch binder, but if you have a bigger binder then don't fill it completely and just give yourself a little extra space to put other stuff in it such as tab dividers, maybe a little binder pencil case/pouch thing or maybe a folder that clips into the binder or anything else that you can buy that clips into a binder.

Depending on how many tab dividers you have in the binder will depend on how much refill you should put in each section but just evenly divide it between the amount of sections. I put around 25 sheets in each of my 6 sections although they won't all be in my binder at once so it comfortably fits my little homemade pencil holder things.

I also made a DIY whiteboard thing and made a cover thing for it so that the whiteboard markers don't just wipe off easily. I blu-tacked the whiteboard to the inside of the front cover. I plan to put my timetable, a homework to do list and a reminders section on my whiteboard. This way I can easily check what subject I have next and when I get home I have an easy to access list of all of my homework to complete.

Keep you binder tidy so that things are easy to access. If your binder is starting to look messy then just tidy things up a bit so that things are all in the right order and so that everything is easy to find. You could also get some folders, whether you have just one at the end for all of your loose papers or one for each of your sections so that loose papers and handouts are all nicely tucked away together so that they don't fall out or get messed up and so that you don't have to carry a hole punch around with you all the time.

I would suggest 1 inch binders because the refill opens up completely without you having to tear the pages off. This would keep it organised and tidy because there won't be a bunch of loose papers that will easily fall out when the holes start to tear. It will also keep things organised because you can write in it like a book so everything will be in the right order.

Another idea I have if you have 1 binder that you take to school is to get another binder to keep extra stuff in.
Say you have Maths, English, Science and 2 other subject in your binder so 5 all up and you only have Maths and English that day, put the other 3 sections in your spare binder so that you only have what you need and aren't carrying around extra weight that you don't need. You could maybe get one of the bigger binders for your spare one so that you can keep extra refill and stuff in it.

So that is all the tips I have for now, if you have any other tips feel free to share them in the comments...

Back to School - Studying Tips

I'm pretty sure that at most NZ High School you do exams all through High School although in your first 2 years you don't do the national exams you just do small subject exams for your core subjects (Well at my school anyway). NZ High Schools start in Year 9 and finish in Year 13. Most people start High School the year they turn 14 but if your birthday is in January, February or sometimes even March you usually start the year you turn 13 (Not sure why but that's just how it is).

Just for my international readers Year 9 in NZ is equivalent to...(sorry if these a slightly off but I did a bit of research and I'm pretty sure these are correct)
USA - 8th Grade
Aussie - Year 8
Canada - 8th Grade
England - Year 9

I just used my 4 more common international areas for the equivalents but yeah.
I was in year 9 last year and had a fantastic first year of High School and we had exams in our 4 core subjects (Maths, English, Social Science and Science). I thought the exams were easy and passed them all with top marks even though I didn't do a whole lot of studying. Although this year I am seriously going to study to get into good habits for my senior years (Years 11-13) at High School. I really do need to study a lot this year though especially if I get into the top class for my year and do the year 11 exams a year early. I would recommend studying especially if you know that you aren't the best when it comes to school.

I thought I would share some studying tips with you, to help you out in 2015 if you are starting to do exams at your school.

Tip #1 - Take short breaks frequently
Take short breaks (5-10 minutes after every 20-30 minutes or so), That way you won't be studying for hours on end without doing anything in between because chances are you will be getting bored and not taking as much information in as when you started.

Tip #2 - Exercise
Why not do a little bit of exercise during your breaks to help get the blood flowing, or just get a bit of fresh air during your breaks.

Tip #3 - Food and Drinks
Make sure to have some healthy snacks with you. I would suggest to also keep a glass of water near you to keep you hydrated while you study. I may do a video on healthy snack ideas when my exams come along this year but 1 snack recommendation I have is carrot, celery and/or capsicum sticks with hummus.

Tip #4 -- Colour
If you are a visual learner and learn things visually, you may want to consider using colourful pens, highlighters, sticky notes and other bright things to help you to remember important things.

Tip #5 - Recording
If you are a audio learner and learn things by hearing them, why don't you ask if you can record lessons or why not record yourself reading your notes and then listen to them when you are in the car, during lunch, when you wake up or whenever.

Tip #5 - Hand Gestures
My science teacher last year often made us learn simple hand gestures to help us remember the order in which we had to do things for experiments. So maybe you could try that. It won't work for all things but you could just play around and see what you can come up with to help you remember things.

Tip #6 - Quizzes
Why don't you make fun little quizzes to do with your friends to help you find out what you know and what you need to work on.

Tip #7 - Flash Cards
Why don't you try making flash cards for you and some friends, this is like the quiz and will help you to find out what you understand and what you don't understand.

Tip #8 - Songs
If you are musical like myself you could try and find some songs to help you to remember what you need to know for an exam. For example, if you needed to know the first 10 or 20 elements of the periodic table, you could learn part of the ASAP Science Periodic Table song to help you memorize the elements.

Tip #9 - Friends
Try studying with a buddy. I would suggest studying with a friend of the same ability that way you can both work together instead of one person doing all the teaching while the other listens. Of course you could help your friends if you are ahead of them and maybe if your friends are ahead of you, you could consider asking them if they would tutor you. You could even pay them a little bit or give them something to thank you but if they are your true friends they probably won't expect anything in return.

#Tip 10 - Ask Google
Use this as a last resort if you really don't understand something.

Thanks, hope this helps you out.

Back to School - Bullying

Bullying. Bullying is repetitive and is horrible experience for the victims. I would like to help spread awareness so if any of you have been through, are going through or know someone who is going/has through bullying, I would really appreciate it if you could share your story.

I will share your stories on either my youtube channel or here on my blog but will be keeping stories anonymous so that no one will know who sent each story. I will make sure not to share the names to each story so that way no one will know that it is your story.

So if you have a story and want to help spread awareness then you can share it with me via...

Email - kiwigirlhelp@gmail.com
Instagram - Kiwigirlhelp (DM me)
Kik - KiwiGirlHelp

or you could message me on youtube messages.

I would like to get as many stories as I can to help people to understand what bullying can lead to and so people know to help others dealing with bullying. I was mildly bullied when I was younger but I will share my story when I get some other stories from you who have been bullied whether it was only mild or if it was quite severe. It still affects you somehow.

I will probably share the stories next month when I go back to school so make sure to share your stories before that and remember they will be anonymous.

Next month you can expect a post on dealing with being bullied so yeah...

Thanks,

Back to School - Crushes

Crushes. They are something most girls and boys deal with as they start to go through puberty. They can sometimes be annoying because you feel as though you can't talk to the person normally and sometimes you are worried that they will find out that you like them. It can often be so heartbreaking when you discover that they don't feel the same about you. Crushes can also be a distraction and distract you from more important things in life.

My first tip is to not let them be a distraction. Focus on your school work and other things that is more important then worrying about what that certain someone thinks of you.

Also, try to become friends with the person and just get to know them. That way if things don't work out or you find someone else you can still be friends. If the guy is nice, he won't mind if you like him and just get on with life as if he didn't even know.

Only tell friends you trust a LOT unless you want a whole bunch of people to find out. I've told people that I really shouldn't have told and trust me I'm pretty sure my entire class knew.

If they don't feel the same way back, just move on. There are plenty of other people out there and you aren't limited to just one.

Don't spend your time worrying about what they think about you and stop over-thinking things. Just because they accidentally bumped into you or liked your photo or something it doesn't mean they like you. I mean they might, but it doesn't always mean that. I might do a video on How to tell if a guy likes you later on this year.

I know this was rather short but I really didn't know what else to put so I thought I would keep this short.

so...

Back to School - Getting your Period in Class

I have a video on this so I thought I might do a bit of a post on it too.
So you are sitting in class and you feel a strange gush or dampness down there. It's your period. What do you do? Do you ask to go to the bathroom? Or do you wait until the class is over? No you have to go now before anything bad happens. Some teachers are very strict when it comes to students going to the bathroom during class especially tests. With the right words you may be allowed to go, so here I am to help.

My first piece of advice is to wear liners if you are due or expecting your period. I would recommend the U by Kotex Protect Liners. These liners have saved me from embarrassment a lot so I would definitely suggest you go and buy some of them. So yeah if you wear liners and get your period then hopefully they will be able to save you until you can get to the bathroom. Although if you have a heavy flow, I would suggest getting to the bathroom as quickly as you possibly can.

I would also suggest waiting until the middle of the class if it happens near the beginning of class because teachers usually won't let you go to the bathroom near the beginning or end of class.

If you really desperately need to go right now, I would suggest just going and simply saying "May I please go to the bathroom?" It's as simple as that, most teachers will say yes especially if they are female because it is very likely they have gone through this as well.

You've just received the dreaded no but you really have to go. This is when you should say things like "It's a girl emergency" or "Period". It really depends on what you are comfortable with. You could also maybe have your period kit in your hand while you ask and maybe gesture to it or slightly open it so they can see inside but again this depends on what you are comfortable with.

Negotiate. Maybe they have said no because you have work to finish so you could maybe say "Well can I go when I've finished _________"

Ask then why you can't go and maybe try and correct it so that you can go to the toilet.

If you desperately then just say "I'm going to pee myself if I don't go now" or if you have a female teacher say "You know what it's like now can I just go to the bathroom" or "I won't be long"

Maybe you could ask to go to the sickbay/nurses office or whatever and then instead of going there go to the bathroom or go to the bathroom there if there is one.

That is all of my tips for getting your period in class and for when your teacher won't let you go.

Thanks,
KiwiGirlHelp
